Lead Line glass also named radiation-shielding glass or radiation-proof glass refers to special glass with the function of protecting radioactive rays such as X-rays and gamma rays. In recent years, with the development of radiology medicine, atomic energy industry and other fields, the problem of radiation protection has been widely concerned.
Radiation protection principle:
X-rays, gamma rays and other radioactive rays are high-energy electromagnetic waves, which can lead to ionization of atoms in the medium when passing through different media, so it is also called ionizing rays. The shorter the wavelength of an electromagnetic wave, the more penetrating it is. Since the wavelength of the ray is of the same order of magnitude as the size of the atom, the molecular absorption coefficient can be obtained by adding the atomic absorption coefficients of the elements that make up the molecule. Therefore, the mass absorption coefficients of the various oxides that make up the glass can be calculated according to this principle. The composition of ordinary glass does not absorb these rays effectively, and a large number of elements with high atomic numbers (such as lead and bismuth) must be introduced into the glass composition to improve its absorption capacity. In addition, because the glass itself is easy to become dark brown and lose transparency after absorbing strong radiation, it is often necessary for the glass itself to have high radiation resistance.

Mainly used in the need of radiation and radiation protection. For example, in radiology, it is often used for radiation protection and shielding, or as an observation window in a radiographic lead room.
